Sofapaka Beats Leopards
Sofapaka ends the 1st leg of the Premier League (KPL) top the log after edging out AFC Leopards (2-1) a midweek clash at Nyayo National Stadium.
Top scorer John Baraza hit a brace to provide 2009 champions the victory over Leopards. They have 32 points; four away from defending champions Tusker who are second.
The double took Baraza’s tally to the season to 12, two free fromThika United’s Kepha Aswani that has ten from 14 matches from the race for that golden boot.
For Leopards, it continues a wretched a run of form with early season pacesetters having lost three in their last four matches and end the 1st leg on 27 points.
Sofapaka were in good form starting the game well and went ahead on 12 minutes when Baraza beautifully headed home a Humphrey Mieno cross past Leopards keeper Patrick Matasi.
Baraza completed his brace on 61 minutes from the run of play when he controlled the ball in box, turned before shooting past Matasi along with his weaker foot.
Leopards though kept trying and they also reduced the arrears on 69 minutes when Martin Imbalambala’s long range freekick was deflected past Sofapaka keeper Duncan Ochieng.
Mike Barasa then missed a glorious opportunity to equalise from the third minute of added time sidefooting wide from five yards.
